    Hello everyone,

I am trying to figure out the easiest way to allow more than 2 RDP sessions at a time on my Windows năm nay Server Standard. I have tried using the google to help, but there are so many suggestions and 90% of them result in the original poster disappearing
so I don’t know the best way to accomplish this. I don’t need anything extravagant setup, I just need more than 2 people to be able to rdp into the server at the same time.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Hi,

By default, system supports 2 simultaneously sessions. That means, if you had a user account log on the system locally, then, there is only one user allowed to establish remote desktop connection to the system at same time.

You can open Task Manager – Users tab, to check current log on user accounts and sessions.

If you want to allow more than 2 simultaneously sessions, RDS deployment with appropriate RDS CALs installed is necessary.

For example, if you need more than 2 connections to your Windows Server năm nay from internal device, then, below RDS serve role might be necessary:
    1. RD Connection Broker.
    2. RD Session Host.
    3. RD Licensing server – there is 120-day licensing grace period, appropriate RDS CALs should be purchased and installed before it has expired.

You can install all server role on single server system and using session-based quick deployment.

    Hi!

You could either do it with Group Policy:

Computer ConfigurationAdministrative TemplatesWindows ComponentsRemote Desktop Services Remote Desktop Session HostConnections

    • Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single Remote Desktop Services session value: Disabled

Next, double-click on Limit number of connections and then set the RD Maximum Connections allowed to 999999.

Or you could edit the registry as follows:

    HKLMSYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlTerminal Server

    • fSingleSessionPerUser value: 0
    • fdenyTSConnections value: 0

Hope you find any of these useful!

    Best regards,
    Leon

The problem here is that you don’t know. You obviously DID NOT try the solution yourself. It does not work.

    Hi Eve!

I am in the same situation. W2019Std with 2 HYPER-V VM’s. One of them has the Remote Desktop Services enabled, and is within the 120 days grace period. This configuration is NOT part of a domain, but a WORKGROUP instead.

Do I still have to install de CALs even though the server is within the grace period?

    Exact message is:

“Your remote desktop services session has ended. Another user connected to the remote computer, so your connection was lost. Try connecting again, or contact your network administrator or technical tư vấn group.”

I have tried many things, but nothing seems to work. License Manager has a green checkmark.

    Please help!

    Thank you in advance,

    Gilberto

This should work. I’ve tested it…

    Go to
Server Manager in Windows Server năm nay

    Click
    Add Roles and Features

    Then select
    Role-based or feature-based installation

    Choose:
    Remote Desktop Services

    Then choose:
    Remote Desktop Session Host

    Install the role

    Run
GDPEdit.msc (use the search feature on Windows năm nay server by clicking the magnifying glass).

Go toComputer Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Remote Desktop Services -> Remote Desktop
    Session Host -> Connections

    Set Limit number of connectionstoDisable.

Set Restrict Remote Desktop Services users to a single sessiontoDisable.

    Reboot

    Hope that helps.

    Eve,

Do you have any documentation on setting up the RDS infrastructure, as you referenced, to allow more than 2 simultaneous RDP connections to various servers in a năm nay environment?

Does Server 2019 have a better way of dealing with this?

    Thanks for your help

Hi @siva-8931

If you want more than 2 concurrent connections, by default you must pay for RDS CALs to connect for multiple RDP sessions.
How to Install and Activate the RDS Licensing Role and CALs on Windows Server 2019/năm nay

If You want can trực tuyến purchase CALs from the Microsoft store or other 3rd party Microsoft resellers.

Hi @siva-8931

By default Windows server will onlly allow two concurrent RDP sessions, if you want to enable more sessions, you will need to install the RDS roles and assign the user CAL licenses to tư vấn the required number of sessions.

Gary.

FYI – you are already breaking your licensing. The 2 built in RDP connections are for admin use only. As soon as you use them for anything else (like running applications, for instance) you need RDS CALs.

    Hi JIten,

So I tried installing just the Licensing portion of RD Services role and I am getting “There are no rd connection broker servers in the server pool” when I go to Overview, following the instructions you gave me.

I looked around for just a little bit but couldn’t find any quick fixes. Any idea on how to get around that?

Also, do you have any recommendations on where to buy licenses?

from server manager > add roles and features> add remove desktop and remote desktop session host and licensing manager you will get 180 days grace period later you can purchase the CALS [in numbers] from Microsoft.

After; open local group policy Gpedit.msc

Computer Configuration> Administrative Templates – Windows Components – Remote Desktop Services – Remote Desktop Session Host – LicensingDouble click Use the specified Remote Desktop license servers, set to Enabled and enter the names license servers then click OK

and Remote desktop licensing mode > Per user

^^ you can also do above at remote desktop configuration

    ThanksJitenSh,

That was very helpful, though I’m running into a little bit of an issue for the last step.

I enabled the GP object but how do I determine which licensing server to type in? Is this something I am given once I purchase the licenses?

Also, how do you see how much time is left of the 180 day grace period?

Here’s what I see under Server Manager’s RDP overview after installing LIcensing and Session host:

I should also mention that this server was never setup as an AD server until today. I installed it because it looked like RDP services may require it.

    2) Any recommendations on the best supplier to buy licensing from?

I am not sure why did you installed RD connection broker, its not required for your purpose. Use powershell to see grace period or even when you login you will see a ballon notification at the bottum

I’ll have to ask them if they are able to use multiple logins now.

So once I find a vendor to buy licenses from, is it pretty easy to add RDP licenses in? The original instructions you gave me said to go to the Overview type in RDP Services (from Server Manager), but it doesn’t show anything there, as I showed you

yes its easy decide what CALS you wanabuy choose per user or per device.youtube/watch?v=6XRv83d1uDY

    Device CALs

With a Device CAL, you purchase a CAL for every device that accesses your server, regardless of the number of users who use that device to access the server. Device CALs may make more economic and administrative sense if your company has workers who share devices, for example, on different work shifts.

    User CALs

With the User CAL, you purchase a CAL for every user who accesses the server to use services such as file storage or printing, regardless of the number of devices they use for that access. Purchasing a User CAL might make more sense if your company employees need to have roaming access to the corporate network using multiple devices, or from unknown devices, or simply have more devices than users in your organization.

How To Set Up Multiple Remote Desktop Connections

RDP Wrapper: Enabling Multiple RDP Sessions on Windows 10

One option to enable remote desktop for multiple users on Windows 10 is by using the RDP Wrapper Library. The RDP Wrapper project permits users to tư vấn more than one simultaneous RDP session on Windows 10 (without replacing the termsrv.dll file).

RDP Wrapper acts as a layer between the Remote Desktop Service, and Service Control Manager (SCM). RDPWrap lets users enable tư vấn for multiple simultaneous RDP sessions, as well as enabling tư vấn of RDP Hosts on previously inaccessible Windows 10 versions, like trang chủ.

This app doesn’t alter the termsrv.dll file, only loading the “termsrv” library with the altered parameters necessary for simultaneous connection. Meaning, RDPWrap will even work if the termsrv.dll file updates, meaning that users don’t have to dread Windows updates.

Please note: Prior to the installation of the RDP Wrapper library, users must ensure they’re using the original (unpatched) version of the “termsrv.dll” file. If they don’t use the unpatched file, the app may not function properly or won’t function at all.

Users can tải về RDP Wrapper from the GitHub Repository (v1.6.2 is the latest available version of RDP Wrapper Library).

According to the information on the developer page, all versions of Windows are supported (Windows 10 tư vấn is available up to the 1809 build).

Users will find the following files contained within the RDPWrap-v1.6.2.zip archive:

    • • RDPWinst.exe (RDP Wrapper Library installation/uninstallation program).
    • • RDPConf.exe (RDP Wrapper configuration utility).
    • • RDPCheck.exe (Local RDP Checker, RDP check utility).
    • • install.bat, uninstall.bat, update.bat (batch files for install, uninstall, and updates for RDP Wrapper).

Run the install.bat with the Administrator privileges to install RDPWrap. The utility will access the GitHub site for the most recent versions of the “ini” file during the installation.

RDP Wrap will be installed in the C:Program FilesRDP Wrapper directory.

Once installation is complete, users should run the RDPConfig.exe.

In the “Diagnostics” section, ensure all elements are green (see below).

Run the RDPCheck.exe, then attempt to start a secondary RDP session (or connect multiple RDP sessions from remote computers).

That’s it! Now the Windows 10 machine should permit multiple users to access different RDP sessions simultaneously.

All Windows editions (Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows 10) are supported by the RDPWrap utility. Meaning that users can establish a terminal (RDS) server on any desktop instance of Windows.

    Additional noteworthy RDP Wrapper features:

    • • The “Hide users on logon screen” option allows administrators to conceal user lists from the Windows Logon Screen.
    • • If users disable the “Single session per user” option, more than one simultaneous RDP session will work under the same user account (the registry parameter “fSingleSessionPerUser = 0” is set under the key “HKLMSYSTEM CurrentControlSetControlTerminal ServerfSingleSessionPerUser”).
    • • Users can edit the Remote Desktop port number from 3389 to a different number of their choosing.
    • • The “Session Shadowing Mode” section lets users reconfigure the remote control (shadow) connection permissions to Windows 10 RDP sessions.
