Hello,
I have a Toshiba Satellite E45t-B4204. Windows 10, version 2004, OS build 19041.1052
Can anyone please help me figure out why my máy tính is so slow? I watched YouTube videos on possible reasons and followed some of the steps but no improvement. Right now I only have 1 startup program thats enabled. Ive disabled the rest. I have 549GB không lấy phí space out of 686GB.
I dont play games. I mostly watch YouTube videos and browse the internet. Thats all. The máy tính is 8years old. I stopped using it for a couple a years and I recently starting using it again and did all the required updates. Its become considerably slow for no reasons, other than the fact that I didnt use it for 2 years. What gives? Can anyone help? Thank you so much in advance!

Hi, I had something like yours until sat on it.  Inherently slow no matter what you do to it.  Would be a great Linux Mint/Cinnamon máy tính.

(Look up Videos on that).

What Anti-Virus are you using ?

I would suggest going up to your Support Page and grab anything that you have not installed including BIOS : tư vấn.dynabook/tư vấn/modelHome?freeText=1200008263&osId=3333785 find info needed to get into site from the bottom of the máy tính.

then :

From the Keyboard press the Windows Key and the X Key and choose Powershell (Admin) OR  START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | select “Run as Administrator” then Copy/Paste –> :  %SystemRoot%System32Cmd.exe /c Cleanmgr /sageset:65535 & Cleanmgr /sagerun:65535 then Enter, select all and sit back. It opens MS Disk Cleanup and cleans up more.

Then :

just because as this should be run monthly as part of maintenance, please do this to see if it fixes any issue (note always backup and make restore points) : From the Keyboard press the Windows Key and the X Key and choose Powershell (Admin) OR for a DOS Command Prompt from START | type cmd.exe into the start search box | RIGHT-click on cmd.exe | select “Run as Administrator” then Copy/Paste –> :
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth command then Enter
if it finds problems then reboot. (Completed Successfully : means reboot)
For more information about this command please see : windowscentral/how-use-dism-command-line-utility-repair-windows-10-image
After : please Open another Admin Command Prompt and please run Copy/Paste –> SFC /SCANNOW into the Dos window or Powershell and Enter.  Reboot after.
The 1st goes up to Microsoft for new files if any are found to be corrupted. The 2nd will then check it self and update it self and fix issues if found.

Then:

Now your ready to go here and press the 1st Button : microsoft/en-us/software-tải về/windows10 and update to the latest version which is very stable.

Suggest Defrag if it is a mechanical drive

Omg, so many steps. Okay thank you. I will try and get back to you. I had Norton but it recently expired. I do have it through my internet service though, where it notifies me if I’m about to open some fishy website.

Hi, ya there should be no problem with Norton.  I run it myself.

The steps given where to get rid of trash that is not needed anymore. Can Search from Start or look on the Start Menu for Disk CleanUp

and run it once and then run it again and click Clean up system files.  This should be a monthly chore and Defrag also.

Dism and Sfc is to correct and fix/repair any system files of Win10 and will hopefully fix you to update to the current version of Win10.

If have issues with the above then will ask you to do other things to figure out why your not at the current version and what other problems there maybe.

Once that is done will see if still slow and what can be done about that.

Just a thought, but is it possible that it only seems slow in comparison to whatever you have been using for the last two years ?  Looking at the specs it was a fairly well specced computer when it was built but times have moved on.

Yes was but Toshiba just packs it full of stuff that can be exchanged for small programs that so the same thing and not always active.

Is what I found with the one I had.

Suggest turn off Windows 10 Fast Start : windowscentral/how-disable-windows-10-fast-startup

If you check this out Chris : tư vấn.dynabook/tư vấn/modelHome?freeText=1200008263&osId=3333785 and enter Win10 will see in Updates

how much is packed in and that is only part of it when actually look at the product page.

When it came out was lots of goodies and needed nothing but those can be changed out now for not always on/running.

I just took this picture. I don’t know how to read everything on there but I believe some of these programs are running in the background and also slowing the computer down? Is it normal for the memory usage to be this high? What do you all think? I’m now getting “page unresponsive” error a lot when browsing the internet. I mean, I might just throw away this computer and switch to my tablet.

It’s pretty easy to use up 6 GB of RAM these days, is that what you have, because that’s what it shows on the official page?

Don’t throw it away, though it is a Toshiba haha, those are pretty okay specs and would run very well with an SSD, but you should be able to get it running well enough like it is also.  It very well could be it is not up to the demand that you need but I would guess that there are other issues.

Why don’t you run the DISM Tool and System File Checker to see if there are any broken files.

DISM and SFC Tutorial

Before running any Diagnostics it is best to Image your Drive or at least Back-up all your important files if possible.  These tools are pretty safe so I will let you decide.  Make sure to be connected to the Internet first.

Run the DISM Tool as Administrator to Repair the Image.  Click on Menu and type cmd or Command, when the Command Prompt comes up right click on it and choose More > Run as administrator

Copy Paste the below command and press Enter

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Then run the System File Checker the same way

sfc /scannow

It may take an hour or so to run so be prepared.  Do not stop it till it finishes.

If sfc /scannow finds errors run it two more times to make sure they are repaired.  Reboot the computer between each run.

If I don’t reply right away it’s because I’m waiting for Windows 10 to Update.

They’re very rude about CCleaner these days but I find that, for certain functions, it is simple and easy to understand.

Before you tải về CCleaner from Its Piriform site, tải về “Unchecky” and have it enabled while you do your tải về.

CCleaner’s Start Menu clean-up, in Tools, is simple and easy to use. to begin with use the Disable Button, rather than Delete. Do just a few at a time.

I have disabled more or less everything excepting Windows OS Stuff, Graphics Card Stuff and my Antivirus. You’ve got 4 Tabs worth of different types to look through. Disable the more obvious ones first. For example: You only need Word to open when you start using it, you don’t need it all the time. Then reboot and leave things for a couple of days. After a couple of days, prune a few more. Some are set to repopulate the Start-up, every time you use them, boring but the decision is yours because the Disable Button also has an Enable Button

Thanks everyone. I guess I was looking for a short answer which for me is just deleting files lol, instead of going through all these steps. I really appreciate all your suggestions though. I don’t use most of those background programs that are taking up memory space so I thought I could just delete them. I’m mostly browsing the internet. I just have to find time to sit down and go through all your suggestions, as long as it doesn’t involve downloading some software. Thanks again. I’ll report back this week end.
