I recently upgraded to a new iMac and running Big Sur 11.4. When I attempted to log into Microsoft Remote Desktop I am able to get in then within 10 seconds it crashes. It was working fine prior to my data transfer from my old iMac to the new iMac. I have no idea what the issue could be since it was working fine prior to the data migration. My old iMac was running Sierra 10.12.6. Any help on resolving this issue would be extremely grateful as I work from home on the weekends and won’t be able to until this is resolved.

Sorry, forgot about this. It turns out in my case it was because of Red Giant plugins. They rely on GPU/hardware acceleration which remote desktop disables for some reason… Also, Element 3D doesn’t work because the OpenGL/OpenCL module can’t be loaded for the same reason…

I ran on this issue where the Remote Desktop Client crashed the second it opened the session.
There was a related entry in the Event Viewer that stated the following :
Faulting application name: mstsc.exe, version: 10.0.17134.112, time stamp: 0x82251f4e
It turned out that the issue was caused by a mapped printer. To resolve this issue I had to disable the printer mapping.
To do so, do the following the RDP client :
– Click on “Local Resources” tab
– Locate the “Local devices and resources” section at the bottom
– Uncheck the box “Printers”
Have you ever encountered a problem where the Remote Desktop session randomly freezes on Windows 10? Reportedly, this issue can be attributed to using the UDP protocol instead of TCP.
Given that there has been no official fix for this problem, there’s no guarantee that switching to TCP will fully prevent RDP from freezing. However, there is no harm in trying.
Here are three methods that may help you unfreeze RDP on Windows 10.
Warning: exercise caution when modifying the Windows Registry. Do not change any registry keys unless instructed to do so. Incorrectly editing the registry may cause system-wide problems that will require performing a clean reinstall of the OS.
Fix RDP freezing via Command Prompt
